UPDATE! Guidelines for Pathology Paper1

Outcomes of discussion with HOD Prof. Dr. Azmi;

1) Format of exam will be exactly like 2010 exam, paper1 for General Pathology : (but with a lil bit of changes here and there)

- Cases (3-4)
- Definition (only 5)
- Enumerate (5)
- M/E (5)
- Give an account (5)
- Write scientific name (10)
- Tables of comparison (3-4)

The total marks will be 75 for paper1 on 30th June 2010 (Thursday)

2) Definition : will be taken from the text book.
p/s: please be sure that you study for this part by heart k.

3) Enumerate : Usually the question will ask you tu give 4points but it doesnt need to be elaborated.

4) M/E : insyaAllah, HOD promised that the will be no specific part asking for N/E (naked eye), only MICROSCOPIC PICTURE. 

But, please take note that N/E might be asked in 'cases' or 'give account' question. 
For example, pathological changes of gumma which equals to N/E & M/E. 
So, we suggest that, if you are really2 having limited time to study everything, put N/E aside or study the most important topic only for N/E. 
Just catch up with the other much more promising important parts such as compare and definiton.

5) Give an account : In case if the question ask for 'pathogenesis of.....', the possible question will only be for pathogenesis that explains certain disease not pathogenesis that explaining mechanisms or steps. 
Eg: pathogenesis of wet gangrene, pathogenesis of brown induration, etc.

For mechanism and steps, you just need to know the headline and short elaboration as it might be asked in cases part.

6) Write scientific name : Look for the keyword of every part/topic/chapter/disease/lesion that you study to answer this part very well.

7) Tables of comparison : PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, master this part very very well. Its a bonus part for us. You dont need to memorise the whole thing in the table. Choose only 5 points for you to write in the paper. 
You just have to give a SHORT ANSWER without any elaboration in each row while comparing the items. 

Eg: Compare Bilharziasis Ulcer and Gummatous Ulcer

If you choose to write N/E, your answer should only be as follows:

Row 1: edge: sharp superficial/deep ..................sharp deep
Row 2: margin : cyanotic nodules .....................serpigenous
Row 3: floor : granular ..............................yellowish necrotic
Row 4: base : indurated/fibrosed......................indurated

OR

You can choose to write these items:

Row 1: site
Row 2: M/E
Row 3: one etiology
Row 4: fate

p/s: But i guess, the first example is much more easier, kan? So take the most easiest item for you to memorize. Its a BONUS BONUS BONUS mark for us to grab.

8) Prof. Dr. Azmi did remind us to try the past year questions as well, in order to get the real idea and to be familiar with the pattern of the questions
OR MAYBE 
we'll have some luck IF some of the questions happens to be taken from previous years question.

9) For NEOPLASIA : The officially deleted part as i've mentioned before, is from page206-210 (Pathogenesis of tumor) and page215 (Paraneoplastic Syndrome).
BUT Prof Dr. Azmi personally told us that you can ignore topics from page203 till end EXCEPT for:
- Neoplastic Syndrome
- Tumor Markers 

10) For the other real clues of exams, lets just hope that we'll have more luck today or the day after tomorrow.

PENGUMUMAN PENTING dan memerlukan respond SEGERA :
Unit Akademik PCM dengan kerjasama Mentor2 Thn3 akan mengeluarkan satu lagi Buku Kompilasi Pathology yang merangkumi kompilasi bagi 'Table of Differentiation' dan 'Sceintific Terms' bagi General dan Special Pathology.

Respond SEGERA diperlukan kerana insyaAllah mereka akan usahakan untuk membuat copy buku tersebut esok. Jadi selewat-lewatnya anda akan dapat pada hari Ahad. Harga adalah sekitar 5-10gnh.

ANNOUNCEMENT : Next strive for PATHOLOGY. Guidelines;

According to the head of department Prof Dr Azmi:
- The exam format for paper1 (General Patho) and paper2 (Special Patho) will be exactly like the previous years. Those items are as follows:

1) 3-4 Cases
2) Define
3) Enumerate
4) M/E or N/E
5) Give an account
6) Write scientific name
7) Compare

- The possibility for repetition of certain topics from past year questions are quite high (50:50). BUT please take note that, you have to cover the topics (which had appeared before) thoroughly as the question will be asked in different form. So, revise the TOPIC not the QUESTION.

- POST MIDTERM / MCQ topics to be covered are:
* Respiratory system
* Liver 
* GIT

* (24Q for 12marks), will be held at 1pm after paper2 exam.

Thats all we've got till now. Lets hope that there will be more clues soon.

NOTE: Important Q summaries that we've got from Dr.Basem, insyaAllah will be posted very soon.

1) Universiti akan bercuti selama tiga hari iaitu 23.04.2011 hingga 25.04.2011 (Sabtu, Ahad, Isnin) sebagai cuti umum.




2) Update tentang kuliah:

Parasitology  :
* Kuliah telah tamat tetapi kelas revision dengan Prof Dr. Atef tentang peperiksaan masih sedang diusahakan memandangkan Prof. sgt2 sibuk. Sebarang makluman akan dimaklumkan nanti.

*Kelas Praktikal masih sedang dijalankan untuk revision slides pada waktu praktikal kumpulan masing-masing.

*Mahasiswa/wi dikehendaki (bagi Gp.11) @ akan dikehendaki (bagi Gp.12) menghantar buku Praktikal Prasitology yang siap dilukis sehingga habis Protozoa (kecuali Arthropods) untuk 'carry marks' sebanyak 4markah. Sila bawa buku ke department dan berjumpa dengan mana-mana doktor/tutor untuk disemak. Tarikh tutup belum diketahui tetapi mohon semua mahasiswa/wi agar tidak berlengah sebelum tawaran ditutup.




Pathology  :
* InsyaAllah kuliah terakhir adalah pada 27.04.2011 bagi menghabiskan tajuk berbaki iaitu bab CNS sahaja.

* Minggu ini juga merupakan minggu terakhir bagi Kelas Praktikal Pathology.

* Pengumuman telah dikeluarkan oleh department tentang LogBook Pathology (nipis) yang perlu dilengkapkan (mana yg patut) untuk dihantar semasa hari exam Praktikal Slides&Jar. Sila bersedia.

* Peringatan juga kepada semua Mahasiswa/wi untuk melengkapkan lukisan di dalam buku Histopathology Slides of Pathology untuk dihantar (seperti tahun2 lepas). Tarikh untuk menghantar belum dikeluarkan. Tetapi tutor di kelas praktikal mengingatkan agar semua mahasiswa/wi bersedia kerana kebiasaannya memang buku ini perlu dihantar untuk 'carry marks'.

* Exam Praktikal Pathology :
- 10 slides x 3m
- 10 jars x 3m
- Jumlah : 60m
- items yang diperlukan : Nyatakan organ, Nyatakan description, Nyatakan diagnosis slides/jar
- masa yang diperuntukkan : sekitar 5min sahaja

* Kelas revision bersama Dr. Basem adalah setiap Selasa pada pkul1.00 petang.




Microbiology  :
* Kuliah tamat. Bab Nosocomial masih dalam silibus cuma ianya diajar ketika Skill Lab.

* Kelas revision bersama Dr. Tamer masih berjalan seperti biasa setiap hari Khamis pada pkul8.00 pagi.

* Minggu ini mungkin adalah minggu terakhir bagi Kelas Praktikal. Jadi sila gunakan masa yang tinggal mengikut kumpulan masing-masing untuk revise slides di Lab Microb.

* Exam Praktikal Microbiology:
- Terbahagi kepada dua bahagian iaitu Identify dan Sheet.
- Anda akan dikehendaki untuk IDENTIFY SAHAJA setiap slides/alatan. (tidak perlu description/jawab soalan)
- Sheet Exam (12.05.2011) : Sila study semua items di dalam buku praktikal. Bentuk soalan juga akan mirip seperti soalan-soalan di situ.

* Semua mahasiswa/wi dikehendaki untuk melengkapkan LogBook Microb (nipis) dan dihantar ke department (di bilik hujung/pada hari kelas praktikal) selewat-lewatnya minggu ini untuk 'carry marks'.




Pharmacology  :
* Kuliah masih berjalan seperti biasa bagi menghabiskan Bab CNS. Waktu kuliah diawalkan bagi mengisi gap yang ada, adalah seperti berikut:
-  Rabu :  pkul 1.00 ptg
-  Khamis : pkul 12.00 tengahari

* Kelas revision bersama Dr. Manal adalah pada setiap hari Selasa (pkul8.00 pagi) dan hari Khamis (pkul10.00 pagi).

* Exam praktikal :
- Pharmacology of Eye
- Semua curve dalam buku Experimental Pharmacology
- Semua items dalam buku praktikal (cth:locally acting drugs)  kecuali Clinical Cases (paper3 written exam 50m)
- Jumlah markah praktikal adalah 20m.

3)  Kutipan Sumbangan Tabung Kasih Sayang (TKS)

* Kutipan akan bermula pada hari Selasa ini (26.04.2011). Mohon semua mahasiswa/wi agar dapat memberi sumbangan ikhlas anda sebelum hari khamis (28.04.2011). Sumbangan boleh diberikan melalui bendahari (Solah/Robex). Diharapkan agar semua mahasiswa/wi dapat bersedia dengan duit sembangan masing-masing. Semoga sumbangan ikhlas anda menfapat ganjaran yang setimpal daripada Allah kelak. Berikut adalah MINIMUM nilai sumbangan yang diperlukan bagi setiap pelajar:

-  Minimum untuk mahasiswa/wi Tajaan : 50LE setahun
(tidak termasuk bagi mahasiswa/wi yang mendapat tajaan yuran pengajian sahaja)
- Minimum untuk mahasiswa/wi tanpa Tajaan : 5LE setahun
- Sumbangan yang lebih amatlah dialu-alukan.
- Sebarang pertanyaan boleh rujuk kepada ketua/timb/bendahari.





4)  Mana-mana mahasiswa/wi yang memerlukan rujukan tambahan untuk ulangkaji bagi Exam Praktikal, bolehlah menghubungi fathiyahnajib (0119948531) atau menyerahkan pdrive sekurang-kurangnya 2GB untuk dicopykan. InsyaAllah sangat bermanfaat dan membantu. Maaf tak dapat nak upload kerana terlalu banyak dan besar. Berikut adalah antara item yang ada:

(4)  Exam's schedule

- Unfortunately, the schedule could not be released yet by the university but the estimated date will be as follows:

* Practical exam : Starting of May
* Written exam : Starts on 5th June till 22nd July 2011
* Oral exam : Right after written exam of each subject according to group division on the same week. The standardized scheme of oral exam has been agreed by each department in the form of Q-cards which will be selected by the students. You might will need to answer all the questions and have another 2 chances to select another card if you cannot answer the questions given. (Exactly like what we had for the oral exam of Histology 2010)


- Since that there is no time to have Post Midterm exam, the exam will be postponed till the last week of the Final Exam which will be in the mid of July. The format of Post Midterm exam has not been released, but it might probably be MCQ questions or much similar to the Midterm Exam.

- The exact schedule insyaAllah will be released by this Monday or Thursday and will be uploaded as soon as possible.

- Examination format for each subject will be released by each department through the International Students Affairs (Prof. Dr. Nesrene). Therefore, please look forward for the related post very soon.



(5)  Practical Sessions : Some of the practical session has ended and attendance will not be taken. But you are adviced to attend the sessions according to the usual schedule as the department are doing complete revision for the Practical Exams NOW! Dont miss the chance to revise the slides especially for Parasitology and Microbiology.



(6)  Last Monthly meeting outcomes:

(i) Exam's schedule explanation : (as above)

(ii) Basic Life Support Programme

* 200 L.E
* A group of 20 has to be formed (recommended: acc to academic year thorugh batch leaders)
* Venue : Skill Labs
* Friday only! (4-5 hours per session)
* Tutors will speaks English completely (International Programme)

-  Those who are interested can register your name to Leader/Vice/Treasurer by next week.
-  For those who had paid 120LE,please confirm your registration and pay the rest of the payment before next week. And for those who would like to cancel, please claim the money from the treasurer.

(iii) Trip to Cairo : Pharaonic Village (by the International Students Affairs)

Date : 29th April 2011
Time : One day trip (9am to 4pm)
Price : 100 LE

* Payments are including meals, entrance fees and transportation
* The registration are open for the first 50 students only, please register your name as soon as possible before the end of this week to Leader/Vice wtih the payment.

* The usual price is around 150LE if you go on your own
* Dont miss this precious chance to see and feel the ancient Egyptians lifestyle and culture lively. A lot of exhibitions, live presentations, history moments and many more to be discovered here.


(iv) All clinical training has been cancelled due to the limited time we have throughout this year. So, the will be no clinical training fo this summer. Let's just wait for the next winter break for new applications.

(v) Special Festivals for International Students replacing the Culture Day which was supposed to be on February will be held right after our Final Exams.

(vi) Skill Lab offers for 30LE and we can choose any interested subject : only recommended for 4th,5th and 6th years at the first place because soon in the clinical years, we will surely be experiencing those skills. 

(vii) Starting from new Academic year 2011/2012, each students will have you own personal Medical Card. Any treatment fees (except for cosmetic treatment) will be recorded in the book and forwarded to the International Student Affairs. Therefore, everything will be FREE including your medication. Only at the Goverment Hospitals.

Parasitology
Silibus bagi tahun3 telahpun TAMAT. Jadi Prof. Dr. Atef (Head of Department) akan memulakan kelas revision  dan penerangan mengenai final exam scheme MULAI kelas seterusnya (10.04.2011). Semoga semua mahasiswa/wi dapat hadir untuk mencatat perkara-perkara penting. Maklumat mungkin tidak akan dimasukkan ke dalam blog.



NOTA : Nantikan update tentang struktur soalan bagi Final Exam mengikut subjek, tajuk-tajuk tambahan dan slides yang dibuang bagi Pathology, jadual final exam dan pengumuman-pengumuman baru.

2) Kelas Tambahan Luar ( Microbiology)

Kelas pertama bagi semester 2 telah bermula pada hari ini (23.03.2011). Bagi sesiapa yang masih berminat untuk kelas ini, sila hubungi Lisa (0114721711) untuk maklumat selanjutnya. Jadual kelas masih belum tetap. Hubungi wakil untuk maklumat tentang kelas seterusnya.



3)  Extra Class by University (Pathology)

Kelas ini akan bermula mulai minggu hadapan pada hari Ahad (27.03.2011). Masa akan dimaklumkan kemudian di Dewan Kuliah/Blog/YM, tapi berkemungkinan pada jam 3ptg di Lab Pathology.. Kami sedia maklum yang hari Ahad memang sangat padat, tetapi Prof. Dr. Basem (dicadangkan oleh senior2) sangat sibuk dan masa tersebut sahaja yang paling sesuai buat masa ini. Maaf sangat2.. Kami masih mencuba untuk mencari alternatif lain. Semoga jadual ini adalah sementara sahaja. Sebarang perubahan akan dimaklumkan kemudian.



4) Extra Class by University (Microbiology)

Kami sedang mengusahakan Prof. Dr. Tameer (spt yang dicadangkan oleh senior2) untuk kelas revision bagi semester 2 ini. Jadi mohon kerjasama mahasiswa/wi yang berminat untuk menyertai kelas ini untuk mengisi borang pendaftaran yang akan diedarkan di Dewan Kuliah atau terus memberi nama kepada ketua/timbalan sebelum hari Sabtu ini (26.03.2011) kerana kertas kerja akan dihantar pada hari tersebut. Jadual kelas akan dimaklumkan kemudian dan akan diusahakan agar masa kelas akan menyenangkan semua mahasiswa/wi.



5)  Extra Class by University (Pharmacology)

Kelas ini telahpun bermula pada minggu ini. Kelas berikutnya akan diadakan pada setiap hari Selasa jam 8pagi di Dewan Kuliah Kecil Department Pharmacology. Revision sekarang adalah berkaitan dengan tajuk GIT. Kami sedang mengusahakan untuk mengadakan revision ini 2kali seminggu. Sebarang maklumat tambahan akan dimaklumkan kemudian.



6)  Skill Lab

Skill Lab bagi semester 2 akan bermula mengikut kumpulan yang telah ditetapkan. Jadual bagi bulan Mac telahpun dikeluarkan. Nantikan post khas mengenai Skill Lab ini untuk keterangan lanjut.

Skill Lab ini adalah wajib dihadiri oleh semua mahasiswa/wi kerana termasuk dalam silibus dan merupakan salah satu lapangan yang wajib dipelajari. Silibus bagi skill lab ini adalah untuk menambah lagi pengetahuan mahasiswa/wi mengenai dunia perubatan di mana silibus ini tidak disentuh oleh buku teks sepanjang 6tahun pengajian.

Bagi tahun 3, silibus yang ditetapkan pada tahun ini adalah bertajuk 'Infection Control and Patient Safety Skill Course'. Jadi,mohon kerjasama semua mahasiswa/wi untuk hadir pada hari yang telah dijadualkan untuk anda. Kedatangan adalah wajib dan akan diambil.
